Grapefruit Glazed Donuts (Gluten Free + Dairy Free)

Manifesting warmer weather with these Grapefruit Glazed Donuts. Baked, not fried, and made using gluten free flour, almond flour, and coconut sugar, they’re on the healthier side. The glaze is made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and zest, and is so sweet and tangy. These donuts are bursting with grapefruit-y flavors, and they’re just so light and delicious. A perfect treat for the upcoming spring days!

Gluten Free Grapefruit Glazed Donuts

Applesauce, almond milk, and coconut oil keep the donuts moist without the need for dairy, and you really can’t taste them in there at all. The donuts themselves are not too sweet and have just a little bit of grapefruit juice, so the explosion of flavor from the glaze really pulls the whole situation together.

About the inspiration…

Fruity and citrusy treats aren’t usually my first pick (I’m more of a chocolate kinda girl, myself), but I do love grapefruit. Growing up, we used to eat it for breakfast with a little sugar sprinkled on top, and my mom taught us how to carefully squeeze every last drop of juice out onto our spoons after the fruit was gone.

I really wanted to translate that taste of sugar-y grapefruit into a recipe, and a batch of glazed donuts seemed like just the right way to do it. They’re seriously so mouthwateringly fruity and each bite is just like that last squeezed spoonful of fresh juice. I can’t even explain it, you’ll just have to make them and experience it for yourself. It’s like a grapefruit in donut form.

Healthier Glazed Donut Recipe

Grapefruit Glazed Donuts 


Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 11-13 minutes

Total time: 23 minutes 

Serves: 12

Ingredients

For the donuts:

  • 1 ½ cup gluten free flour (I used King Arthur’s

  • ¼ cup almond flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 2 eggs

  • ¼ cup coconut oil, melted 

  • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened applesauce 

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • ½ cup coconut sugar

  • 2 tbsp fresh squeezed grapefruit juice

For the glaze:

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp fresh squeezed grapefruit juice

  • 1 tsp grapefruit zest 

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350℉ and grease two donut pans (12 donut molds) with coconut oil.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the gluten free flour, almond flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, add the eggs, almond milk, coconut oil, applesauce, vanilla, coconut sugar, and grapefruit juice. Beat together until combined.

  4. Add the dry ingredients to the mixing bowl with the wet ingredients. Stir together just until combined. 

  5. Pour or spoon batter into a large ziplock bag and then cut the corner of the bag. Carefully pipe the batter into the prepped donut pan, filling each mold so it’s about ⅔ full. Bake for 11 - 13 minutes, or until golden brown and firm to the touch. Let cool in the pan for a couple minutes and then invert them onto a cooling rack to let them cool completely. 

  6. Meanwhile, make the glaze by adding the powdered sugar, grapefruit juice, and grapefruit zest into a bowl and whisking together until completely combined and an icing consistency has formed.

  7. Once the donuts are cooled, dip them top down into the glaze. Top with extra zest and enjoy!
