Healthy Flax Banana Bread
Honestly, I didn’t intend on making/uploading another bread or banana recipe any time soon….but I had 3 very overripe bananas. So here we are with a recipe that includes both bread and bananas. When life hands you bananas, am I right?
BUT! It is excellent and filled with nutritious ingredients. I added ground flaxseed and avocado oil for some healthy omega-3’s, and the flax also bumps up the fiber content -- all good things. Sweetened with only some maple syrup, dark chocolate chips, and the bananas, this recipe is pretty light on the sugar as well.
If you happen to also have some bananas lying around that are starting to veer more towards baby food than a solid fruit, you should definitely give this recipe a try. It’s perfect to have with breakfast, as an afternoon snack, or as a little sweet treat after dinner!
Be sure to let me know if you give this Healthy Flax Banana Bread a go, I’d love to hear what you think!

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 50 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 5 minutes
Serves: 12
Ingredients
3 very ripe bananas
¼ cup nonfat greek yogurt
3 tbsp avocado oil
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
¼ cup maple syrup (⅓ cup if you like it a bit sweeter)
1 ½ cup whole wheat pastry flour
⅓ cup ground flaxseed
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
⅓ cup + 1 handful dark chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350℉ and prepare a loaf pan with parchment paper and nonstick spray. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas and then add the greek yogurt, avocado oil, eggs, vanilla, and maple syrup. Whisk until well mixed.
In a separate bowl, add the whole wheat pastry flour, ground flaxseed, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until well combined.
Slowly add in the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, stirring until evenly mixed.
Gently stir in ⅓ cup of the dark chocolate chips.
Pour the batter into the prepped loaf pan, making sure it is evenly distributed, and sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
Bake for 50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick or knife comes out clean. Let cool for 15 minutes, slice, and enjoy!
