Spicy Shrimp Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing (Paleo)

Spicy Shrimp Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing (Paleo)

Spicy Shrimp Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing....an idyllic spring and summer recipe! The shrimp is seasoned with smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne for that little kick of heat. The slightly smokey and spicy flavors of the shrimp are balanced out by the sweetness from bites of mango and the zestiness of the honey-lime dressing. It’s light and delicious, and it’s made using healthy and nourishing ingredients you’ll love!

Spicy Shrimp Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing

The spicy shrimp is definitely the real show-stopper of this recipe. It’s so flavorful and has just the riiiight amount of spice to it. I seriously couldn’t stop eating the shrimp as I was assembling and shooting this recipe. What’s great about it is that you can really make the shrimp as spicy or as mild as you prefer! I’m definitely a bit of a wimp when it comes to spicy foods, so my version of “spicy” could be your version of extra mild. Just adjust the amount of cayenne to get your desired level of heat.

Healthy Shrimp Salad and Dressing

Now, I know some may say fruit in salad is blasphemy, but I’m here to tell you that’s nonsense. Mango just belongs in this salad, and no one can convince me otherwise! The fresh sweetness of it is the perfect compliment to the deep smoky flavors of the shrimp. Mixed all together with red onion, cherry tomatoes, avocado and arugula…it’s just so good. If you’re not afraid of a little extra heat, I would also recommend tossing in some pickled jalapeños for good measure. Mmmm!

Spicy Shrimp Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing

Made using only four simple ingredients, the dressing is so easy to whip together. The citrus of the lime juice combined with the sweetness of the honey, the earthiness of the olive oil, and the heat from the red chili peppers all comes together to create an absolutely mouthwatering dressing to coat your salad in.

This salad really is so incredibly quick and easy to throw together. It’s perfect for a backyard barbeque or dinner party, especially on those hot days when everyone just wants a little something light.

Spicy Shrimp Salad with Honey-Lime Dressing (Paleo)

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Total time: 25 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 lb raw, peeled and deveined shrimp

  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tbsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp cayenne

  • ½ tsp cumin

  • Salt and Pepper

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or grass-fed ghee for cooking

  • Juice of 3 limes

  • ¼ cup olive oil

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 tsp red chili flakes

  • 1 bag/box of arugula (~4 cups)

  • 1 mango, peeled and cubed

  • 1 red onion, halved and thinly sliced

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

  • 1 avocado, sliced

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry the shrimp. Place in a large bowl and set aside.

  2. In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, cumin, and salt and pepper. Pour the mixed spices into the bowl with the shrimp. Toss together until the shrimp is well and evenly coated.

  3. Heat the 2 tbsp of olive oil or ghee in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the pan sizzles to a drop of water, add the shrimp in a single layer (you may need to do more than one round). Cook for 2-3 minutes and then flip and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Shrimp should be opaque and cooked through when done. Remove from skillet and set on a plate.

  4. In a bowl, add the ¼ cup olive oil, honey, lime juice, and red chili flakes. Whisk together until well combined.

  5. In a large bowl, add the arugula, mango, onion, and tomatoes. Toss together. Top with shrimp, avocado, and dressing. Serve immediately and enjoy!
