Healthier 4-Ingredient Hot Chocolate

Healthier 4-Ingredient Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate (hot choccy? Where my baby Yoda meme fans at?) is pretty much the ultimate seasonal staple for the winter. It’s been rather mild here in NYC so far this winter, but that’s not about to stop me from snuggling under blankets with a warm mug of hot cocoa--and it shouldn’t stop you either!

Healthy Hot Chocolate Recipe

Growing up, we always used those ready made packets of hot chocolate (hello, Swiss Miss). Though, as I’ve gotten older, and a bit more aware of what I’m putting inside my body, I’ve noticed that those pre-made, packaged mixes aren’t exactly full of the most ideal ingredients. So naturally, I decided to make a better version for myself!

Healthy 4-Ingredient Hot Chocolate

This dairy-free, paleo-friendly hot cocoa recipe is super simple, and it’s made using only 4 simple and wholesome ingredients. It takes 5 minutes to whip up, and it’s so incredibly rich, creamy, and delicious.

If you’re looking for a little something sweet to warm you up on a cold day, you must give this recipe a try.

And be sure to let me know if you do!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Paleo Hot Chocolate

Prep time: 0 minutes

Cook time: 5 - 10 minutes

Total time: 5 - 10 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups unsweetened almond milk (or any kind of unsweetened milk)

  • 3 tbsp unsweetened organic cocoa powder

  • 5 tbsp (¼ cup + 1 tbsp) dark chocolate chunks (aim for ones with minimal ingredients and no emulsifiers such as the Enjoy Life brand)

  • 3 tsp maple syrup

  • Optional: Cinnamon for sprinkling on top

Instructions

  1. In a sauce pan, heat up the almond milk until warm and stir in the chocolate chunks until melted and almost thoroughly mixed. Be sure not to boil.

  2. Transfer the milk and chocolate mixture into a blender, add the cocoa powder and maple syrup. Blend on high until everything is completely mixed. The top should be slightly foamy.

  3. Pour into mugs and sprinkle with a little bit of cinnamon, or add some marshmallows, snuggle up, and enjoy!
